MATHER, Sacramento County — Sacramento County continues to maintain a planning record for Mather South, an approximately 848-acre master-planned redevelopment area on former Mather Air Force Base land near Mather Lake and the airport.
The county identifies the planning area as lying between Mather Golf Course and Mather Lake to the north, the Folsom South Canal to the east, Kiefer Boulevard to the south and Mather Preserve and Zinfandel Drive to the west. The concept involves redevelopment of underused former base property and has required land-use and environmental review.
An environmental determination was recorded in 2020, but planning approvals and redevelopment goals should not be confused with proof that the entire property has been built or that every proposed project has financing. Later phases can require their own permits and approvals.
Practical information for residents
Nearby residents should monitor public hearing records for traffic, utilities, habitat preservation and housing decisions. People considering purchases should verify the status of the particular parcel and proposed access roads rather than treating an illustrative master-plan map as finished construction.
