MATHER, Sacramento County — Mather Regional Park, on land formerly operated by the Air Force, remains a major outdoor recreation destination for families, anglers and visitors to eastern Sacramento County.
The 1,600-acre park includes Mather Lake, group picnic areas, a golf course and places to watch wildlife, particularly during spring and fall migration. Sacramento County says the lake is stocked with bass or trout depending on the season; anyone fishing must hold the required California fishing license unless legally exempt.
The county lists year-round access from sunrise to sunset and vehicle admission fees, including $8 for a passenger vehicle and $15 for an RV or a vehicle with a trailer, subject to changes and possible holiday surcharges. Picnic group reservations are available through the park’s official reservation service.
Practical information for residents
Visitors should follow posted signs and check whether particular facilities are reserved or closed. The county also warns that some GPS systems have not updated the name change from Zinfandel Drive to Eagles Nest Road south of Douglas Road.
